Story

Bhairaj (Sai Kumar) has been winning as the MLA of Dharmasthala constituency for seven consecutive terms without facing any serious opposition. However, despite being in power for years, he does very little for the development of the constituency. His political journey takes an unexpected turn in his eighth attempt when Eshwaraiah (Suman), an ordinary tea-shop owner, defeats him.

The film raises several interesting questions. Why does an ordinary tea-shop owner enter politics? What is the real reason behind the death of his son Badri (Nataraj)? What is lecturer Arundhathi (Vithika Sheru) fighting for? The story also focuses on present-day problems in colleges and education, the dangerous impact of drugs on students, and the influence of money in politics.

Performances

Sai Kumar and Suman compete strongly throughout the film. Sai Kumar delivers a powerful performance as a political leader and gets several impactful dialogues and commanding moments.

Suman brings excellent versatility to the character of Eshwaraiah. His performance gives the character dignity, emotion and strength.

Vithika Sheru gets a very important role as lecturer Arundhathi. Her fight for society, education and the future of students connects well with the audience and gives the film emotional strength.

Nataraj, son of talented actor Satyaprakash, makes his Telugu debut with this film. Despite being a newcomer, he performs with the confidence and maturity of an experienced actor. The twist involving his character in the first half creates good curiosity for the second half.
Rayamcha Kokkura looks beautiful and performs naturally as Nataraj’s love interest and fellow student.
Kasturi, appearing in a negative role for the first time, makes a strong impression and does justice to the character.

Varun Sandesh as Arun has some heart-touching moments. Rajeev Kanakala and Shiva also get roles with scope to perform. Shiva’s bike is another interesting element.

Shafi, Raja Ravindra, Prithvi, Kalakeya Prabhakar and the other supporting actors contribute effectively to the film.

Director Jai Gnana Prabha Thota deserves special appreciation for choosing such a socially relevant subject for his debut film. Handling a story that deals with politics as well as education-related issues is not easy, particularly while managing a large cast of established actors.

The director successfully connects the two major themes through the screenplay and presents them with a clear purpose. Choosing such a subject for a first film itself shows his confidence and commitment. Jai Gnana Prabha Thota deserves special praise for attempting a meaningful story instead of taking an easy route.

Chandrabose is one of the major highlights of the film. His lyrics are not merely added as songs; they travel along with the story and, in several places, help move the narrative forward.
